STAT!
Soroptimists Together Against Trafficking
Started in 2011, STAT! is a collaborative group of Soroptimist clubs across San Diego County united to address the needs of local victims and educate the public about the risks of human trafficking, pimping, and sexual slavery.
All Soroptimist clubs in San Diego County are welcome to participate. The mission of STAT! is to address the needs of local victims and educate parents, teens, and the public about the realities of modern-day slavery.
Accomplishments
Hosts STAT! Salutes Our Mission Heroes each March to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations taking a stand against modern-day slavery.
Presents films and documentaries to raise public awareness of human trafficking in San Diego County.
Funds small grants to victim services providers throughout the county.
Together with The Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition, posts information about human trafficking on San Diego trolley blue line to the border.
Collected signatures and walked to support Proposition 35, which increased punishments and fines for human trafficking offenders.
Redesigned a San Diego Police interview room to provide a warm, safe environment for victims to share their experiences with police.
Participates in the Live Your Dream annual program by awarding a grant to a trafficking survivor enrolled in college or vocational training.
Monthly Meetings
Second Wednesday of each month
Planning public awareness events, updating members on community activity, determining financial awards and recognition, and discussing assistance to local nonprofits dealing with human trafficking.
